Embracing Change: From Layoff to Entrepreneurship 🌟
In early November 2020, amidst the tumultuous waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, I received a letter from Key Travel informing me of my layoff. The travel industry, once bustling with activity, now stood as one of the hardest-hit sectors. Like many others, my company faced the daunting challenges posed by the global health crisis. Initially, uncertainty clouded my thoughts, and I felt unsure of what the future held for me.
However, instead of succumbing to despair, I made a conscious decision to view this unexpected turn of events as an opportunity for growth and reinvention. It was a chance to pivot and explore new possibilities. After moments of deep introspection, I realized that this could be my opportunity to pursue something different, something that resonated deeply with my interests and aspirations.
I decided to take proactive steps to enhance my skills and make myself more competitive in the job market. Recognizing the paramount importance of continuous learning and professional development, I immediately enrolled in a three-month underwriting refresher course with a reputable company. This decision stemmed from my prior experience in underwriting first mortgages, coupled with the understanding that refining my skills would be imperative for staying relevant and competitive in the field.
The intensive refresher course proved to be a transformative experience, furnishing me with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to excel in underwriting. It equipped me with the latest industry insights, best practices, and technical expertise required to thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of finance and insurance.
Armed with my newfound skills and a refreshed perspective, I embarked on a journey of job searching with renewed determination and optimism. After diligently applying and interviewing for various positions, my efforts bore fruit when I received an offer to join Citizens as an underwriter.
Joining Citizens wasn't merely a career move; it symbolized my resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth. I embraced the opportunity to leverage my expertise and make meaningful contributions to the company's success.
Reflecting on my journey, I am profoundly grateful for the unexpected detour that led me to this new chapter in my career. It taught me invaluable lessons about the significance of embracing change, seizing opportunities, and perpetually investing in self-improvement.
And so, on the 30th of November 2020, Jetstream Logistix was born - initially just an idea, but through perseverance and dedication, it began to take shape, starting with small jobs and gradually expanding its horizons.
